Photo from @TheFightingIrish Instagram After defeating DePaul and spending the night in Chicago on Saturday, the Notre Dame men’s basketball team took off for central New York early Sunday afternoon.
The Irish arrived in Syracuse just before 3 pm. After settling into the hotel, the team met for about 25 minutes to go over the scouting report, before heading to the nearby Carrier Dome for a shootaround.
For those unfamiliar with the Carrier Dome, it’s an absolutely massive basketball venue. In fact, with a capacity of 33,000, it’s the largest on-campus hoops arena in the nation. It also serves as the home of the Syracuse lacrosse and football teams, where it can hold close to 50,000 fans.
Given the arena’s size and layout, it can be a little difficult for shooters to adjust, so the team spent some extra time taking jumpers, before walking through Monday’s gameplan.
After returning to the hotel, it was on to dinner and a Super Bowl gamewatch. The team was split pretty evenly between cheering for San Francisco and Baltimore. Eric Atkins, a Columbia, Md. native was probably the biggest Ravens supporter, while Garrick Sherman and his sweet winter hat were certainly rooting for the 49ers.
One of the funniest moments of the night came during a first half commercial break.
The Rock. Vin Diesel. Paul Walker.
The reaction across the room was almost universal, with Joey Brooks summing it up best: “Not another one?!”
Yes, another one. Fast 6.
While the Har-Bowl captivated the nation on Sunday night, there’s another brother showdown set for Monday evening.
Everyone is excited about this “Harbowl” I’m excited for tomorrows “Grant Game” #bigmonday

The “Grant Game” as Jack Cooley called it. Junior guard Jerian Grant will be playing against his brother, Jerami, a freshman forward for the Orange.
Jerami started in Syracuse’s loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, and is expected to be in the lineup against the Irish as well.
Jerian vs. Jerami is just one of the many interesting storylines for the Big Monday matchup, so be sure to check out ESPN beginning at 7 pm ET. If you can’t watch, listen live on UND.com.
