With her first basket during Saturday’s 89-44 win over Providence, senior point guard Skylar Diggins surpassed the 2,000-point mark.
Diggins caught a pass from Kayla McBride off the opening tip-off and scored a layup for the 2,000th and 2,001st points of her Irish career.
The South Bend native is the fourth player in program history to achieve this feat, joining Beth (Morgan) Cunningham, Katryna Gaither and Ruth Riley.
Cunningham, the team’s associate coach, holds the program record with 2,322 points.
With 2,020 points, it’s unlikely that Skylar catches Cunningham’s all-time mark, but it’s certainly a possibility that she will move into second place by the end of her Irish career, as she trails Gaither by just 106 points.
The second-ranked Irish are back in action tonight at #9 Tennessee on ESPN2 at 7 pm ET.
