Photo by Joseph Weiser On a day when most Irish fans have their attention turned to Los Angeles, the Notre Dame men’s basketball team took on St. Francis (PA) at Purcell Pavilion.
Playing without veteran tri-captain Scott Martin (sore knee), newcomers freshman Cam Biedscheid (13 points) and transfer Garrick Sherman (11 points) helped lead the Irish to a 69-52 victory.
Biedscheid knocked down four three-point field goals, and Notre Dame used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to put away the Red Flash’s hopes for an upset.
Even without Martin, the team’s second-leading rebounder, Notre Dame dominated the glass, 42-25. Jack Cooley pulled down 13 boards, while also adding 13 points, for his fourth double-double of the season.
In addition to Sherman, Biedscheid and Cooley, Eric Atkins (13 points) and Jerian Grant (11) finished in double figures for the Irish.
Notre Dame returns home on Monday night when it hosts Chicago State at 7 pm ET. Watch it live on ESPNU.
